This course is designed to provide elementary/secondary school personnel with a comprehensive organizational, behavioral, and curricular approach to support students who exhibit challenging behaviors. Participants will develop an understanding of the psycho-educational philosophy of the BIST model and how it ties into trauma-informed care for students. They will also learn the Goals for Life, language to reduce resistance with difficult students and develop effective communication skills with parents and other staff members. Through role-playing, participants will have the opportunity to observe the new concepts being taught by the Behavior Intervention Support Team.
This class will explore how critical accountability is in creating sustainable transformation. Participants will have the opportunity to develop a common definition for accountability while increasing their depth of understanding of how critical this concept is in creating change as well as the necessary components to guide children through this process. There will be time to identify the areas of needed growth both personally and for each participant’s school community. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to develop goals for the upcoming school year in order to increase the consistency of care for children in their community.
BIST is excited to share our new format for BIST Administrator support and networking: a series of seven virtual training sessions focused on components of BIST that can positively impact your students, staff, and school families. Our conversations will focus on how to increase collaboration, communication, and consistency through grace and accountability.
Created to address the specific challenges faced by building and district leaders. This conference features presenters from across the Midwest who possess BIST experience in a variety of school settings from urban to suburban, elementary, and secondary settings.
This course is designed to assist teachers with devising strategies that enhance the efficiency of instructional time as well as devising a structure for students as they navigate chaotic and traumatic experiences. Throughout the workshop, teachers will explore the importance of organization, planning, clear expectations, procedures/routines, and consistency in order to become a more effective teacher to maximize student learning.
This one day class will provide participants with:
- Philosophy of Recovery Room
- Structure Processing: Preparing students to process with teacher(s) and practice apologies/plan/restitution.
- Skill-based Coaching
- Protective Planning
- Outlasting the Acting Out
This course begins with an overview of classroom management and provides a brief overview of the BIST philosophy, language to reduce resistance for students as they navigate chaotic and traumatic experiences, and processing with students.
In addition to our one-day New Teacher Workshop, we are excited to offer a series of sessions to support our new educators throughout this school year. The focus areas have been specifically chosen to match the unique needs for each time of the school year.
As part of its mission to support children and families, the Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) is offering a series of three complimentary classes for parents and guardians. These sessions are designed to:
- Create consistency between school and home.
- Provide language for adults to use when redirecting children.
- Share ways to problem solve to increase your child’s success.
- Increase generosity and kindness in your children.
- Bring a sense of calmness to your home.
This course is designed to provide school personnel with comprehensive knowledge in dealing with children who have been diagnosed or exhibit symptoms associated with a psychiatric disorder. We will examine specific childhood mental health issues as well as effective school-based intervention strategies to help the student experience school success. The BIST model will provide the foundation for many of the intervention strategies discussed.
This course is for building Vision Teams to network with other Vision Teams, analyze data, build on the philosophical BIST foundation, and problem-solve to meet the needs of our most challenging students.
